Jogo Kortarra is the Galactic legal alias of Jonathan Goodman, a former practicing attorney and lifelong Star Wars fan. While trying to find a fun and creative outlet to marry my love of the Star Wars universe with my years of legal experience, I noticed that most discussions about the law and Star Wars have applied actual U.S. laws, regulations, and precedent to analyze legal issues. There really hasn't been any substantive discussion of the law and legal systems from within the Galaxy that George Lucas created. So, I was inspired to learn as much as possible about the Galactic Legal System through canon and legends, and to think about what gaps I can fill in to build a more robust and complete picture of the Star Wars legal universe. So, I created an attorney--Jogo Kortarra, and a law firm—the Galactic Law Group (which I believe is the first of its kind) to explore and imagine what the professional life of a well-known attorney would look like "in-world."

One of the most magical things about Star Wars is the richness and depth of the characters and their environments, and I can't stop thinking about the interaction of those characters and environments--and the innumerable legal issues that they could face--no matter how ridiculous, serious, or complex they might be. I received my BA and MBA from University of Michigan and my JD from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. I am still licensed to practice law in Virginia and Washington, D.C. I live in the Seattle area with my wife, daughter, and two Bernedoodles.
